I already posted recently, and I will get back to that series, but a thought came to me that I want to share before I forget it.

I once heard about the Jewish way of getting married (at least, the way they did it in Bible times). I’ll try to recount it as accurately as I can. First the man chooses the woman he wants to marry. Then they become betrothed to one another. After that, the man goes to build a house for him and his wife-to-be. This can take a long time, and in this time the bride is preparing herself to marry him and live as his wife. But the thing is, she never knows when he might return. She has to be ready for him to come at any time, so she’s constantly in a state of eager excitement, watching to see if today is “the day.”

The person who gave this information then explained that the whole illustration of our being married to Jesus is the same as the Jewish way of marrying. He choose us (John 15:16), we chose to accept His call, and so we have been betrothed or engaged to Him, with the Holy Spirit being the “ring” (2 Corinthians 1:22, Ephesians 1:13). He’s gone to prepare a place for us (John 14:2-3), and He’s coming to take us there soon (Hebrews 9:28, Revelation 22:7).

Here’s the thing: He’s almost here to sweep us up into the clouds. He’s at the door (James 5:9)!
He’s almost inside the house (James 5:8)! An eager bride (us) should be establishing our hearts as James 5:8 says, getting together the last few things. We should definitely not be indifferent about it. Imagine how eager He must be to finally have us with Himself in total unity (John 17:24).
My friend, it’ll be absolutely glorious! May God grant a longing for that day to us all. He’s coming soon!

And that’s beautiful!
